Weekend Workshops

This is the first in a series of Weekend workshops introducing some extraordinary guest instructors    

The workshops will feature a Friday night lecture and demonstration, followed by a two day workshop.

Internationally-recognized watercolour painter Peggy Burkosky shares years of painting experience in this intensive weekend workshop. Students will explore strategies and techniques for clarifying light and shadows, learning to alter mood and atmosphere while simplifying perspective and value drawings.

After several year hiatus from youth art classes we are back serving young aspiring artists.  All our classes focus on your child’s development in a welcoming, encouraging and enthusiastic manner.  the classes have been organized in block of 4 weeks to accommodate our children’s busy schedules.

Art Explorers (Ages 8-12 )

This interactive youth class is designed for young people who love to explore art, experiment with colour, and focus on creativity. Your little artist will experience an adventure in art, introducing them to a variety of artistic styles, mediums, and techniques, while giving them the confidence and encouragement needed to plant the seeds of creativity to last a lifetime.  All supplies are included.

This introduction to art mediums, techniques and methods, is designed for young artists with a keen interest in art who have demonstrated some drawing skills and a positive attitude to developing as artists.  Students, working primarily with drawing and painting supplies (acrylics), will be exposed to several art.
 
 
 

Fall 2017 Adult Classes

All our regular weekly classes have limited space, ranging from 8 -12 students.  Registration is on a first come first served basis, with registration being confirmed by payment in full.  You can pre-book your class and our staff will contact you for payment when payments are due (usually one week in advance).  We reserve the right to cancel any class, and will contact you at least one week prior to the first session to let you know if we do not have enough registration (this happens very rarely and we apologize in advance should this occur, but we need to meet our minimum registration in order to continue with the classes). Registered students needing to cancel must do so a minimum of one week before the first class by email or phone to receive a refund on registration. If you are not able to cancel one week in advance you will NOT receive a credit unless we have a waiting list and are able to fill your spot.  If we can do so, we will issue you an in-store credit which you can use for classes, art supplies, or custom framing.   If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to call us at 604-448-1860

POSTER ART 1

Beginners Watercolours

Brod Wong Mondays 7:00pm – 9:00pm

$198 October 2 – November 20 (8 weeks) This comprehensive watercolour class will lead you through watercolour basics and techniques, allowing you to explore individual subject matters and projects while developing skills and confidence with watercolours.    Students will learn how to mix dynamic colour, both wet-in-wet and dry-brush techniques and create confident washes, as Brod shares his keys to well designed compositions, fluid washes, and confident brush strokes.

Beginner Drawing Workshop 

Arnie Fisk

Tuesdays  7:00pm – 9:00pm

$198 October 3 – November 21 (8 weeks) Arnie Fisk leads this class as an introduction to art though classical drawing. This workshop is much more than just a drawing class, as Arnie teaches students how to become better observers, to see and capture form using pencil, charcoal, and other drawing materials. New and past students are welcome, regardless of your previous drawing experience, with all students seeing an immediate improvement to their drawing skills.

Wednesday Morning Workshop

This painting class is designed for beginner and intermediate painters working in Oils, Acrylics, or Watercolours. Joseph Wong, one of our most popular instructors at the workshop, will guide and inspire you while teaching painting techniques in the medium of your choice. Students supply their own painting materials, and should come to the first class prepared to work on the subject matter of their choice.
 
 
Inquitas - 2016

Fundamentals of Painting

Bronwyn McIvor Wednesdays 7:00pm – 9:00pm

$198 October 11  – November 29 (8 weeks) Students explore the fundamentals of painting (composition, brushwork, colour mixing, value) in Oils and Acrylics in this weekly workshop. The open format class allows students to bring individual projects to work on under Bronwyn’s guidance, or to work on the class project to develop specific skills. Beginner painters will find this a great introduction to the building blocks of painting, while intermediate painters can brush up on these core painting principles.

Exploring the Figure

Mark Glavina Thursdays 7:00pm – 9:00pm

$245 October 12 – November 30 (8 weeks) Model fees included Explore Drawing and Painting the Figure and Portrait with Phoenix Art Workshop founder Mark Glavina.  During the first four weeks students will focus on drawing the figure and portrait with charcoal, learning to use drawing as a segue to painting.  For the second half of the class students can paint in the medium of choice using the structural foundation learned in the first four weeks of this intensive but beginner-friendly class.

This painting class in Oils, Acrylics, or Watercolours is perfect for beginner and intermediate painters. Leo Hu guides and inspires while demonstrating painting techniques in different mediums. $92 per 3 week session October 14 – 28 (3 weeks) November 11- 25  (3 weeks) Join us on Saturdays as master palette-knife painter Chris Charlebois leads this exploration in Oils and Acrylics. His class is a one-on-one instructional workshop, so students should have some painting experience and arrive for the first class with their own supplies and prepared subject matter.
